Its easy to get to - whether youre heading in for a day out or planning a longer break.Think rolling countryside, historic towns, and miles of footpaths just waiting to be explored.Its the kind of place that feels like a breath of fresh air, even if youre only popping by for the afternoon. 12 Things to Do in Cheshire1. Hike Shining TorIf youre up for a good leg-stretch, Shining Tor is one of my favourite hill walks. Its the highest point in Cheshire and gives you sweeping views across the Peak District and beyond on a clear day.Theres a popular circular route starting near the Cat and Fiddle pub (postcode: SK11 0AR), which is well worth doing. Its about 4.5 miles and fairly gentle, with rewarding views throughout.Dont forget your camera the scenery is stunning!2. Explore the Historic Walled City of ChesterI was lucky enough to call Chester home for almost five years, and I still think its one of the most beautiful small cities in the UK.You can walk the full loop of the ancient Roman walls, visit the majestic cathedral, and admire the iconic black-and-white buildings along The Rows. Dont miss the Eastgate Clock its the second most photographed clock in the UK (after Big Ben!).Its a great day out, especially if you love history and architecture.3. Enjoy a Taste of KnutsfordKnutsford has a lovely mix of independent restaurants, coffee shops, and pubs perfect for a laid-back lunch or dinner out. Its got a bit of a cosmopolitan feel while still being very Cheshire.A few favourites? You cant go wrong with Lost and Found for a fun vibe or Giovannis for some Italian charm. There are loads of hidden gems to discover ideal if youre a foodie!4. Visit Chester ZooChester Zoo is hands-down one of the best days out for families. With over 35,000 animals, there's always something new to see from giraffes and elephants to the adorable meerkats (Lilys favourite!).Weve got an annual pass and go all the time. There are themed play areas, picnic spots, and even a boat ride if little legs get tired. Arrive early, wear comfy shoes, and check the feeding times the penguins and elephants are a must-see.5. Indulge at The Ice Cream FarmAnother local favourite for my little toddler! Or why not explore The Blakemere Trail - a fantastic 6km circular walk perfect for all ages. Parking is easy and theres a fab caf at the visitor centre.7. Visit Tatton ParkTatton Park in Knutsford is a proper day-out destination. Theres a beautiful stately home, 50 acres of gardens, a working farm, and even a deer park.Throughout the year, they host some brilliant events food festivals, Christmas markets, and classic car shows to name a few. Walk Along The Sandstone TrailFor those seeking a more active adventure, the Sandstone Trail offers a scenic walking route through the Cheshire countryside.Stretching for 34 miles from Frodsham to Whitchurch, the Sandstone Trail offers some of the best walking in Cheshire. But dont worry you dont have to do the full thing!Two of my go-to sections are the Bickerton Hill Circular Walk and Bulkely Hill Walk both offer epic views without too much climbing. Bring a picnic and soak in those big Cheshire skies.9. Go Shopping at Cheshire OaksIf retail therapys your thing, Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet is a must. Its the biggest of its kind in the UK, with over 140 stores including favourites like Nike, Levis, and North Face (my go-to for outdoor gear!).There are loads of places to grab a bite and plenty of parking. Try to visit midweek or early morning to avoid the crowds.10. Visit Lyme ParkJust on the edge of Cheshire near Disley, Lyme Park is a real gem. Fans of Pride and Prejudice might recognise the house as Mr. Darcys Pemberley!Theres loads to explore the grand hall, lakeside picnic spots, a deer park, and a fantastic playground. Its dog-friendly too, with plenty of open space to roam.11.
