GLAMPING | Glamping at Long Meadow Campsite, The New Forest Review
CollaborationWith my husband working over the late August bank holiday, it was the perfect excuse for me to head down to The New Forest for a solo glamping break. Read on to find out more about my stay at Long Meadow Campsite.Where did I stay?Long Meadow CampsiteNew Forest National ParkBrockenhurstHampshireSO42 7QH Book accommodation or find out more at campinginthenewforest.comGlamping & CampingBell tents start from 100 per nightGlamping pods from 75 per nightGrass camping pitches cost from 25.50 per nightCamping pitches with EHU cost from 35 per nightMy VisitIts always lovely not needing to go to the effort of packing and pitching a tent, so I jumped at the chance to stay in ready-pitched canvas dome bell tent, complete with a proper bed, furniture and cool box in the heart of The New Forest.I set off as early as possible on the Friday of the bank holiday weekend and having planned my route, realised Id be passing through Salisbury, providing me the perfect opportunity to finally visit Stonehenge before reaching my final destination.Breaking up a long journey to the south from up north and planning something to do on the way was definitely a good call, and Stonehenge proved to be just as spectacular as I knew it would be.I eventually entered The New Forest at around 4:30 on Friday afternoon and was immediately reminded of just how lovely this part of the country is, stopped in my tracks almost immediately by pigs, followed by ponies, then later cattle roaming around, a sight which continued to delight me throughout my stay.It should go without saying, but however cute and endearing, the ponies, deer etc. are wild animals. Please respect them by giving them space, do not approach and certainly do not try to feed or pet them.Long Meadow Campsite was easy to find and upon arrival, I was given a warm welcome by site managers Ian and Suzy and efficiently shown to my canvas home for the weekend.I was immediately struck by how pristine the entire site is, and despite it being a bank holiday and the site being technically full, there was still so much space between pitches, and indeed between the 3 glamping bell tents, so the site felt spacious and the bell tents, wonderfully private.Outside the tent, theres a barbecue and a picnic table with a parasol, all looking out onto a wide open field (often full of deer). Inside the big bell tent, theres a comfy double bed, two single futon chair beds, 2 large indoor/outdoor beanbags, bedside tables, fairy lights, an electric cool box and a storage unit containing kitchen essentials.I set about making the bed and lugging inside my camp stove, pots and pans and various other things and then went on to pour myself a glass of wine and make a simple supper of crusty bread and cheese, enjoyed whilst sitting outside gazing out at the herd of deer and several ponies. The perfect family campsiteWhilst of course on this occasion, I stayed on my own the bliss of having enough time and space to read an entire book in just 24 hours is indescribable the site is perfect for families. The no noise after 10pm rule was abided by and early morning noise from kids was also thankfully minimal. It felt like a welcoming, well-kept campsite, full of lovely, considerate campers which as far as Im concerned is a massive bonus and not always easy to find. For those with kids, theres so much space for them to run around or ride bikes, that given the campsite is secure, you might actually get a little peace and quiet of your own while they play and make new friends. As I discovered though, you dont have to have kids to love this campsite! I spent a couple of hours exploring the forest and despite trails being relatively busy, it was easy to wander off for a spot of quiet Shinrin Yoku (forest bathing) and nature meditation, which I loved. The facilities on site were all spotlessly clean each time I used them, the washing-up area provided clean sinks and hot water and there were also plenty of bins and a chemical loo disposal point. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Camping with Style Blog (@campingwithstyle)Out and AboutFor those that like cycling and walking, theres easy access to plentiful forest trails right from the campsite, with meandering woodland that leads to a lovely river, ideal for paddling in on warm days and easy access to the village of Brockenhurst where I thoroughly recommend you purchase a naughty treat or two from The Bakehouse.Local pubs to note include The Huntsman of Brockenhurst and The Snakecather, whilst further afield a visit to Burley Village, known for its fudge and witchy shops is well worth a visit too.For those on holiday/staying longer than a weekend, seaside towns like Bournemouth provide a great option for an easy day trip, theres the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu and you can even get the ferry over to the Isle of Wight from the nearby port town of Lymington.More About My Stay23rd August 26th August 2024, I visited over the late August bank holiday weekend, staying in a fully furnished bell tent that can sleep up to 4 (2 adults and 2 children). Camping New Forest operate 10 fab campsites in The New Forest, and its an area packed full of things to do. Perfect for everything from relaxed woodland walks and bike rides, to afternoon tea in quaint villages and visits to the beach and of course, the free-range ponies, pigs and cattle are a joy to see!DISCLOSURE | I was invited to stay at Long Meadow Campsite by Camping New Forest. I have not been paid to write this review, but I did receive free accommodation. WELLBEING | Celebrating The Joy Of Little Wins With a Bit of Help From My Garmin Venu 3S
CollaborationWhen I found myself lacking a little in fitness motivation, getting back on track and keeping myself accountable was a priority. I recently kick-started a new fitness regime and here I share some little wins that can help you do the same No matter how you choose to move your body, be proud and celebrate the little wins! When I started running during lockdown I never imagined Id grow to love it. Fast forward and Im still running, but doing much less outdoors now and far more on my home treadmill. Im also still doing plenty of open water swimming and of course, lots of walking too, but lately Ive been lacking focus and knew I needed to do something to renew my motivation and hold myself accountable.Getting back into good fitness habitsAs someone who tries their best to offset the damage done by having a full-time desk job, it has always been important for me to track my steps and to understand what that means in terms of calories. As a poor sleeper too, I like the insights that detailed sleep reports provide.Running during lockdownOnce I take my eye off the ball and stop tracking things, thats when my healthy habits begin to slip, leading to a downward trajectory for my sense of wellbeing and mental health, so Ive always felt I benefit from wearing a fitness/health tracker. My entry-level Garmin Forerunner smartwatch was a step up from my super basic Fitbit and served me well for many years, but frustrated with its inability to track swimming amongst other things, forcing me to switch to my dedicated Poolmate swim watch, Id been on the lookout for an upgrade for some time.Tracking little wins with the Garmin Venu 3SIm now the proud owner of the Garmin Venu 3S smartwatch, a fantastic piece of wearable tech thats several steps up from my old Forerunner 45S. My new smartwatch effortlessly paired to the Garmin Connect app which Ive been using for many years (and much prefer over Strava or the Fitbit app) and I had it up and running, with a super-cute fully customised watch face, in just a few minutes. The best part of my new smartwatch is its extended activity tracking. Having recently returned to yoga and pilates classes after a massive break of 15 years, its a joy to be able to track all of the activities I do, including meditation. Its so nice not needing to switch between my old Forerunner, designed primarily for running and my dedicated swimming watch, a single device that does it all has made a huge difference and means theres one less thing to think about. We can move our bodies simply because it feels good to do so. Whether youre looking to take control of your health, want to kickstart a new fitness routine or you simply want to hit a daily step count, a smartwatch really does give you the knowledge that you need to keep you on track and help you make better decisions.Walking in The New Forest at the weekend wearing my Garmin Venu3SWhilst hitting a personal best is always cause for celebration, unless youre training hard for an event or are a serious athlete, its not all about hitting a PB every time you head out for a run. A hike neednt be a race to see how fast you can reach a summit and a swim can just be a swim. Open water swimming, easily tracked on my new Garmin Venu 3SUnless youre specifically event training, we need to remember that we can move our bodies simply because it feels good to do so, not because we need to be getting better every time we do it.Celebrating little fitness wins, particularly for those new to exercise or returning to it after a long break, can absolutely be about being gentle with yourself and recognising that anything you do is a cause for celebration.A slow run is still a run, a tough yoga session you struggle through is still a yoga session, a short swim is still a swim you get the picture. So after your next, walk, run, swim or gym session, dont beat yourself up about what you didnt achieve, focus on and celebrate everything that you did achieve without the pressure to be faster or to go longer or harder than last time.Walking in the Lake DistrictHow to Celebrate Little Fitness Wins1. Start small and create a habitFor those just starting out or returning after a break, start small! Sign up for one beginners class a week. Go for one walk a week. Go for one swim. Dont be tempted to jump straight in a decide youll exercise every day or multiple times a week. You might want to start even smaller, with a few minutes of home yoga or weight training a couple of times a week, gradually working up to doing more as exercise becomes a habit.Starting small and keeping goals achievable can do wonders for self-esteem too, making you feel good instead of making you feel bad for not sticking to something more unrealistic.2. Ditch the endless drive towards achieving PBsTry not to get too hung up on personal bests, seeing stats like your Vo2 max increase or becoming a local hero for specific run segments although Id be lying if those things didnt give me a little boost when they do happen! Move your body because you enjoy it and because you know each time you do, youre investing in your health and wellbeing and thats good enough.3. Dont get hung up on what you didnt doDont beat yourself up if you are unable to meet your daily goals. Life will often get in the way of our best intentions, but you can pledge to make it up the next day or the following weekend, whatever works for you.10k steps is often lauded as the goal we should all aspire to, but if youve done little exercise in the past or are in recovery, you may want to set your daily step goal to something more attainable, after all, theres no point feeling like youve failed day after day which can leave you ultimately demotivated.4. Set up move alertsLots of different fitness-tracking smartwatches provide movement alerts or similar, and if they are optional, Id recommend turning them on. The Garmin Venu 3s does an incredible job of nudging me to move throughout the working day when Id otherwise be largely motionless at my desk and stiff by mid-afternoon.The Garmin Body Battery feature is something I find super helpful too. In very simple terms, when Ive had a particularly active day it sends soothing guidance to wind down and congratulates me (a little win!), and when Ive had a sloth-like day, it provides gentle encouragement to move my body to facilitate better sleep. 5. Choose something you enjoyFinding the time to fit exercise into a busy life isnt easy and often requires a total rethink of priorities. Some may get up earlier to fit it in, others may have to make sacrifices elsewhere to find a space to invite consistent exercise into their lives.Creating space in your life will always be easier if its for something you enjoy. Remember though, that just because something is hard, doesnt mean you cant find enjoyment from that. Likewise, choosing something easy might not be enough to keep you motivated, so its a good idea to give as many different activities a try as you can.Yoga is amazing for every level and can be done with a minimal amount of space at home, all you really need is access to YouTube, though professional in-person instruction, particularly for total beginners is best, so try looking for local classes, particularly If working out at home isnt practical. If youre competitive you might want to have a go at Cross Fit or give Park Run a try. From walking to weight training, cycling to open water swimming, there are so many options to choose from, with a bit of dedication youll find something you enjoy that you can fit easily into your life.More about my Garmin Venu 3SI chose the Venu 3S which is the smaller version of the Venu 3 (smaller watch face, and smaller strap size). Its packed full of features, including a full-colour touch screen, WiFi, voice controls, advanced health tracking, excellent battery life, loads of stats and the ability to track everything from open water swimming to sleep data.Double the price of my old Garmin Forerunner 45S, its genuinely worth every penny and Id thoroughly recommend it. Mine cost 399 from Very, and you can view their full wearable tech range here.Read about some of the things I do to stay active.Where to next?WELLBEING | 10-Minute Nature Awareness Mini Meditation for BeginnersWELLBEING | How to Get Your Nature Fix In The Depths Of WinterWELLBEING | A Snowdonia Walk And Thoughts On Experiencing Adversity PositivelyShop related products OEX Phoxx 1v2 Tent for 1 Person with Porch, 1 Man, Compact, Lightweight, Tunnel,... 4.5 out of 5 stars(59) 65.13 (as of August 31, 2024 21:09 GMT +01:00 - More infoProduct prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
